Empowering Accessibility: Portage Place Mall’s Revolutionary Wayfinding System for Visually Impaired Individuals
We are excited to announce that we have installed a “ Wayfinding System”. Portage Place is the 1st mall in Canada to install BlindSquare beacon technology. This system consists of beacons in our mall to assist visually impaired individuals navigate their way to Service Canada. These wayfinding beacons use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology to transmit signals that can communicate with smartphones or tablets that have downloaded the
BlindSquare app that provide voice assistant directions. The Wayfinding Beacons are strategically placed throughout the mall, providing step-by-step directions to Service Canada. This new technology aims to make it easier for visually impaired individuals to locate Service Canada and navigate the mall with greater independence.
We are committed to making our mall a more inclusive and accessible space for all. If you have any questions or feedback about our Wayfinding System, please don’t hesitate to reach out to CNIB Frontier Accessibility at 1-800-563-2642 or email https://frontier-cnib.ca/contact.php .
