About the Stephen Lewis Foundation: Currently, the Stephen Lewis Foundation supports 1400 projects operative through 315 community-based organizations in 15 sub-Saharan countries. The African grandmothers have moved from sorrow and demanding basic human rights of food, clothing, and shelter to claiming human rights of protection from exploitation and abuse, the rights for education, employment and pensions for those grandmothers to old and weak to work but still have grandchildren in their care. Grands ‘n’ More Winnipeg stands in solidarity with these African grandmothers who are now recognized as the “pillars of their society”.
